We are proud to represent the estate of the late William ‘Bill’ Bailey.
Bill trained at Edinburgh College of Art from 1945 to 1949. He went on to complete a post graduate course between 1949 and 1950.
Subsequently he went on to be awarded travelling scholarships to France and Sweden, and then later to Greece and Italy. It was whilst he was in Greece he became highly engaged with the small scale sculpture dating back to 400-500bc, small figure pieces which were often derived from famous actors of the time. This influence stayed with him all his life.
Bill went on to become a senior lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic where he would teach until 1984. During which time he continued exhibiting at The Royal Academy. The Society of Scottish Artists. Beaux Arts Bath. The Manchester Academy and The Royal Scottish Academy.
During his teaching career Bill taught the legendary North West Artist Geoffrey Key.
Bill was consistently working on his own sculpture during his teaching career and ended up becoming friends with Henry Moore.
William C Bailey works are in many public and private collections in America, Norway and England.
We have a collection of Bills work available to purchase from the Gallery which have been sourced from his family.
