Donald McIntyre RCA (1923-2009) was a landscape and coastal painter. Originally from Yorkshire and attended Scarborough College and Skipton Grammar School. He studied art with James Wright RSW and developed a style in the Scottish Colourist tradition.
Born in Yorkshire of Scottish parents, he spent the most memorable years of his childhood in the west of Scotland. McIntyre subsequently qualified as a dentist in Glasgow, he remained in that profession, working in the army and then in the school service until the age of forty, when he left dentistry to make a living as a full-time painter.
McIntyre had a long series of solo exhibitions starting at Howard Roberts Gallery in Cardiff in 1965-66. Later with Thackery Gallery in London from 1969, The Royal Cambrian Academy, and Racines Gallery. He had a retrospective exhibition at Oriel Ynys Mon, Llangefni in 1996. McIntyre has also exhibited at the Phoenix Gallery in Lavenham, NWG, Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, and Royal Society of Marine Artists.
In the late 1950’s McIntyre moved to North Wales. He was a member of the Pastel Society, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Society of Marine Artists, and for many years until his death, The Royal Cambrian Academy.
